das ist ja sowas von super-anstrengend, augen- und hirn- und lesezeichenleistenbelastend. und außerdem so wahnsinnig demotivierend, wenn man nicht das Genie mit 1,0er -Durchschnitt und einem Mathephysikinformatikchemimaschienenbaustudium ist.
als geisteswissenschaftlerin guckt dich keiner auch nur mit dem hintern an.

this whole thing is so uber exhausting. a pain in the ass, brain, eye and for my bookmark sidebar. and on top of that so fu.cking demotivating, when yo’re not a genious  mathphysicsinformatichemiengineering student with a 1.0-average.

as a humanities student  you are as interesting as a fruitfly to the grant giving people.

Look what leaped in front of my eyes on my way to my linguistics course! Just hanging there on the 4th floor, being pencil-poked by bored students…And I saved it! It’s now hanging over my desk and decided for me where to put my first steps.
Let’s go the study-route on my map!

Drei Wege führen für mich nach Vancouver. Und jeder hat so seine kleinen und größeren Felsbröckchen inne, die nur auf mich und meine stolpernden Füße warten.

mit einem Masterstudium in der Hand sich für zwei Auslandssemester an der Partneruni (Simon-Fraser) bewerben.

-> dafür benötigt: Stipendium fürs Masterstudium, oder Durchringen zum Bildungskredit

mit einem work-and-travel-Visum, sozusagen einer 12-monatigen arbeite-wo-wann-und-wie-lange-du-willst-Arbeitserlaubnis,

• und mit einer mächtigen Portion Glück, vor Ort einen Job zu finden
• oder einen Job schon von Deutschland aus finden (sei es Kellnern, oder die Studienrichtung anstrebend)

mit einem Praktikum.

-> dafür benötigt: ebenfalls ein Stipendium, weil der zweite Name von Praktikum ja bekanntermaßen “unbezahlt” ist.

Bis jetzt stehe ich mit großen Augen noch vor dem Eingang des Labyrinths.
Unbeweglich. Und unentschlossen wohin ich den ersten Schritt machen soll.

Three paths lead me to Vancouver. Each and every one of them has it’s one little and enormous rocks waiting for me and my tripping feet.

with a work&travel working permit, aka a work wherever, whenever and how long you want – working permit

• and a big chunk of luck, to finde a job locally

• or to find a job before – looking for it already in Germany

-> needed: also a grant, because as we all know, the second name of internship is “unpaid”

Right now I’m standing big-eyed in front of this maze. Frozen. Undecided in which direction to take my first steps.

Seit ich das erste Mal in Vancouver war, komme ich nicht mehr los von der grünsten Stadt, die ich je gesehen habe. Verknallt. So einfach ist das. In die Parks, die Leute, den Strand, die Häuser, die Luft, das Wasserglitzern, das wahnsinnig gute Essen, den überraschenden Ausblick auf die Stadt jedes Mal, wenn man zufällig eine besonders steile Straße erklommen hat. Und jetzt möchte ich dorthin. Wie auch immer. Leben. Für eine Zeit. Ich möchte 2011 schnaufend auf einer dieser verdammt hügeligen Straßen stehen und zurückblicken können auf heute. Und irre grinsen. Weil ich es tatsächlich geschafft habe.

Bis dahin ist es natürlich ein wahnsinnig kieseliger, unübersichtlicher Dschungelweg durch Stipendien, Jobgesuche, Visa, Arbeitsbewilligungen und Problemen, die ich noch nicht beim Vornamen kenne, die aber garantiert in kürzester Zeit bei mir an die Tür klopfen.

Für Tipps, Weiterreichungen, Empfehlungen bin ich so offen wie eine Tüte Schokocrossies, die eine Stunde bei mir im Zimmer lag.
Sehr gerne also. Her damit.
Ich werde hier alles dokumentieren. Jedes Tief und Hoch, jeden Rückwärtsgang und jeden Fortschritt. Jede Zu- und jede Absage.
Ab heute bis nächstes Jahr. Los geht’s.

Since my first time in Vancouver, I can’t stop thinking about this greenest of all cities I’ve ever seen. Fallen in love. So simple. With all the parks, the people, the beaches, the houses, the air, the glitter of the ocean, the wonderfully great restaurants – and the surprising view over the city every time you climbed an especially steep street. And now I want to get there. However I’m going to do this. Live. For a while. There.
I want to stand in 2011 on one of these damn hilly streets and look back to today. With a enormous smile on my face. Because I made it.

But getting there is going to be a rough ride. A path full of little and not so little pebbles and rocks, a confusing path throug a jungle of grants, job searches, visa, working permits and problems I don’t even know yet, but probably will know very soon very well.

I’m greatful for any kinds of tips, recommendations and forwardings – like a sponge for even a drop of water.

I’m going to document everything in this blog. All ups and downs, every step back and forward. Every rejection and every (hopefully) letter of acceptance.

(And yes, I’m going to write both in English and in German. I know my English is crappy right know, but – you guessed it – that’s the point. I have to get better. And practice on you guys. Thanks for not flinching too hard.)
